About Us

Hoot to Boot Games came about as a playful way to practice reading. As a former classroom teacher and, now, a reading tutor, I believe in play.  Diane Ackerman, a naturalist and writer, gets right to the point: “Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning”. It is truly the way that children interact with the world and make sense of it.  Children are the most engaged in learning when it is playful.  When I am working with a student, I try to incorporate as much play as possible.  One of the ways we play is to work with concepts through a variety of card games that are fashioned after some of the classic card games like Crazy Eights, War and Rummy.

Playing these games allows for repetition, which allows for practice, retention and the strengthening of neural pathways in the brain that are crucial for reading.  And what better way to repeat, than to play!

Hoot to Boot Games is located in the state of Washington. When we're not playing games, we're outside, enjoying the gorgeous Pacific Northwest.
